Ten on Tuesday

  1. Friday is a Holiday for us.  WOOHOO!!  I’m stoked to have a three-day weekend!
  2. I’ve started a new puzzle with Panda Bears and it’s a pain in the behind so far!
  3. My niece Kailyn will be coming for a weeklong visit on July 11th.  I’m looking forward to getting to spend more time with her this time around.
  4. I’ve ordered 2 new crochet pattern books for all the new babies that are on the way.
  5. I will be an aunt 8 & 9 times over very soon.  SIL & little sister are expecting again.  I think they will both be early 2010 babies.
  6. The past couple of weeks have been crazy hot.  It makes for a miserable night’s sleep.  In the last apartment the bedroom was the coolest room but in this one it seems all the heat gathers in our bedroom!
  7. I’ve been seriously considering finishing up my requirements so that I can take the CPA exam.  I think I’ve only got 3 maybe 4 more classes left to meet the course requirements.  As much as I hate to admit it, I am terrified that I’ll go back to school and not remember anything!  But part of me does regret not finishing my graduate degree and my CPA requirements when I was at UNA.  I think my mind is aching for a challenge right about now too.  What better way to fulfill that than to go back to school!  I would also love to get my Masters of Accountancy while I was at it…who knows, I might give it a go.  I guess the first step is to actually go talk to someone at UAB.
  8. Unfortunately Michael did not get the job that he interviewed for last week.  It’s a little disheartening for both of us, but we persevere anyway!
  9. I checked out three J.D. Robb books from the library several weeks ago and as much as the stories are really great, I’m having a hard time making myself read them!  I’ve managed to make it thru one and I’m about 75% thru the second but I only have until the 6th to get them back to the library.  I’ve already renewed the books once and that’s all they will let you renew for.  So I’ve got to try to finish them over the long weekend!
  10. Roz I think you and I shop at the same Wal-Mart!  UGGGGHHHH!!  Michael is so anti-Wal-Mart that he absolutely refuses to go with me, and on the occasion when we have to have something right away and he’s with me, he always stays in the car.  So that leaves the Wal-Mart shopping to me and when your Wal-Mart is re-designing their layout it is not fun at all!!  I went Saturday morning just for a few things and it took me over an hour because I couldn’t find anything!!

Happy Short Work Week All!

My New Hobby/Obsession

This is my very first "big girl" puzzle!  It was 1000 pieces and it took me a little over 1 week to do.  Thanks to Michael I have now got a new hobby that just might turn into an obsession!  Since this puzzle I've bought 2 more 1,000 piece puzzles and I bought a box of 5-500 piece puzzles.

This is one of the 500 piece puzzles that just took me an afternoon to put together!

There are places online that you can find puzzle caddies, puzzle tables even puzzle picture frames!!  I never new puzzles had so many accessories.  Of course all the accessories are close to if not over $100 each, so I think I'll be sticking to my $5.00 puzzles for the time being.  Although I do hate breaking them up once I've finished them!

Ten on Thursday

My Sister Kelly’s Birthday was yesterday…Happy Belated Birthday Kelly!

Last week I managed to win 4 tickets to see an advanced screening of “The Proposal”.  Nicole, Cindy, Paula and I all went last night to see it…great movie!!!  It had my side in stitches it was so funny!!  I would recommend it to guys and girls alike!

Michael has a second job interview with a software company here in Birmingham tomorrow afternoon.  I’m praying double time that he gets this job; it’s everything in a job that he’s wanted!  I hope it goes well for him!

I finished my first “big girl” puzzle on Monday!  I was so happy to be done with it!  And it turned out great!  I just had to get a picture of it, but I'll have to post it this weekend or something cause I haven't had the time to put it on the computer.

On the next trip to the store we bought 4 more puzzles.  One box had 3-500 piece puzzles and we bought another 1,000-piece puzzle.  I will be starting another one soon enough, but I figured I would rest a few days first!  Is anyone else into puzzles?  We could start a puzzle swap meet or something!

My Aunt Pam and Uncle Donnie are flying down from NY tomorrow, YAY!!  I’m excited to see them.  It’s been a few years.

Since Father’s Day is Sunday, Kelly’s birthday was this week and Aunt Pam and Uncle Donnie are coming for a visit, we’re going to have a big family shin ding on Sunday.  So I will be up in Trinity visiting with the fam!  So exciting!

Michael and I have been making regular trips to the farmer’s market in an effort to not only eat better but to also save money.  It’s been working on both fronts!  It’s our weekly trip that we enjoy together.  There’s something to be said for spending pressure free couple time together.  We go on Saturdays to the farmer’s market, then we run to the grocery store for everything else we need, then we come home and wash/dry and chop all of our fruits/veggies.  It’s so domestic but it’s great!

This summer seems to be flying by!  Already we’re approaching the end of June!  Crazy!

"Hello, is it me you're looking for?"

So a lot has been happening lately sorry I've been MIA!

I turned 29 on May 30th and surprisingly the world did not coming to a crashing halt!!!  OMG  I've only got 1 more year of being in my 20s....where o' where did my youth go???  We did however manage to have a wonderful day.  Michael took me to lunch, we made a trip to the farmer's market, I got a new silk arrangement of flowers then we went to see Angels and Demons at the theater.  It was a really great movie but the book (as usual) is much better.  I definitely recomend that to anyone who likes thrillers.  Then we spent the evening with John and Paula which was a lot of fun.  Here are my flowers...

Michael and I have been purchasing all of our fruits and veggies at the farmer's market lately and they are super tasty!!  Of course it's made Michael cook more, which is always better for our waistlines then eating out.

Michael picked up a puzzle while he was at the drug store the other day and I'm having tons of fun putting it together.  Michael has helped me a little with it, but I'm totally into it!  It's been years since I've done a real puzzles (other than the little kid puzzles with the nephews) and I don't actually think I've ever done one with this many pieces before!

I got my hair cut last week and I really really love it!!  I think this just might be the style I want to have as my "adult" hairstyle!!  I really liked the stylist too, she was really nice and they are just down the street from the apartment and relatively inexpensive.

I rented a movie from Blockbuster over the weekend and they have this promotion going on where you pay $10.00 for a movie rental and you get a weeks worth of movies/games one at a time (exchange as many times as you want thru out the week).  So we've been finding time to watch a movie about every night.  Well the cool thing was that we ran out of movies that we really wanted to see, so we picked up a Wii game.  OMG  I totally recommend Super Mario Galaxy to anyone who has a Wii, it is sooo fun!!  We've been playing it for a couple days now, and I think we're just going to have to make a stop at GameStop and see if we can get a used copy for cheap!!  It's the best game we've played so far I think!!

That damn ticker!

Ok, so I fell off the weightloss wagon a while ago.  Must be almost two months ago now.  So the last several days I've had a renew devotion to the weightloss journey and I'm bound and determined to make that ticker move again!  I've got three pounds to lose before I'm back to the weight I was on the last ticker adjustment.  So I'm hoping in the next couple of weeks you'll see that damn ticker move again!

Sugarland without Sunscreen

Well turns out that no sunscreen was necessary, probably could have used a rain suit!  It rained on us for several hours and we were covered in mud by the time we were done, but it was well worth it!  It was a great birthday present from the little sis, although I don't think either one of us will be doing it again.  We're getting entirely too old to be out in the rain like that!    Here are some pictures

Sugarland and Sunscreen

Kari is taking me to see Sugarland on Saturday at the arsenal, so I'm super excited!!  It's been several years since I've been to a concert (the last being Rascal Flatts in 2006) since Michael's not a big concert goer, so I'm thinking it's going to be tons of fun!  So this morning I'm thinking about the concert and about how fair skinned I am.  I'm pasty!  So I figured on my lunch break that I would make a mad dash to the store so I could grab some sunscreen/block.  Well my moisturizer for my face has an spf of 15, but I've noticed that it hasn't kept me from getting crazy red lately (my rosacea is to blame for some of it).  Oh my the plethora of sunscreen/block out there!  I spent probably 25 mins at least trying to figure out what would be best for my face and then what I should get for the rest of me.  I settled on some Hawaiian Tropic SPF 30 for my arms/legs and some Netrogena SPF 40 for my face.  I'll be crossing my fingers that I make it thru the concert without turning into a lobster!

The refinishing project

So I think I mentioned on here that Mom wanted to refinish my old dresser and that the plan was for me to help her and to learn from her.  Well it actually ended up with Justin and I doing the refinishing project and mother supervising and providing directions at times.  Justin did really well with the painting for a kid that's not even 11 yet!  I was glad for the help too cause I feel older and older every day!  Here are some pics of our project....you'll have to forgive the quality of the pictures again, I'm not a good photographer to begin with let alone trying to take pictures with the new blackberry!

Painting one of the two coats of primer

Two coats of primer and three coats of paint later!  Justin was so proud he wanted to pose with it!

It matches the other furniture in the room pretty darn well, so mom decided she didn't want the ornate mirror on the top anymore, she's just going to see about putting a hanging mirror up.  My first attempt at refinishing a piece of furniture was a ton of hard work, but I enjoyed it and I'm totally excited about what I'll be able to do in the future when we have a house and I actually will start caring about our furniture matching!  Mom's already found a craft book that tells you how to make an upholstered headboard for our bed.  Now I've just got to figure out the details!

The New Hardware...Picture as promised

You'll have to excuse the quality of the picture, but these are the new glasses.  You can't tell much from this picture, but Michael says that they remind him of the "cat eye" glasses of the '50s and '60s.  I just really really like them!

New Glasses!!!!

Michael finally convinced me to give his eye doctor a try and we both had eye appointments this afternoon.  I was so excited!!!  I've had these glasses for at least 3 years if not 4 or 5 and I was ready for some new ones!  Michael and I talked and I thought about giving contacts another go, but after talking to the doctor (who said my allergies were too severe for daily use of contacts) I decided that I would stick with the hardware!  I picked out some new frames that I really really love!!  And Michael even gave them a "they're ok" so I think I'll like them.  ("they're ok or it's ok" is the best you can get out of Michael!)

I really liked the eye doctor too.  She's a lady in her early 40s and all of her office staff is female.  They were really nice and I think we'll be staying with them for awhile.  They're in Gardendale so it's a little bit out of the way, but for the couple times a year we have to go it's well worth it (Michael has to have his eyes checked every 6 months because of the sarcoidosis).  The doctor also gave me some new allergy eye drops to test out and see how they do.  I'm crossing my fingers that they help out with the dry eyes.

After we got back home Michael presented me with this...

It's my very own Blackberry Pearl.

And...

Michael's Blackberry Curve.

Michael said..."they followed me home, can we keep them?!?"  LOL, he can be charming when he wants to be!   He was do for an upgrade and Verizon had a pretty awesome sale going on with their Blackberries, so I guess I'm going to let him keep his...and I'm going to keep mine too!

I'll post some pics of the new glasses when they come in.  Today was a good day! TGIF tomorrow!!
